Land Clearing Services Available in Kerr County
Six professional land clearing services, and on a ranch here the first one matters most. Forestry mulching for cedar brakes. Lot clearing for a homesite, one day per half acre. Brush clearing and underbrushing so a live oak woodland carries grass again. Stump grinding at $4 per inch of diameter, $175 minimum per stump. Tree clearing, site clearing and site preparation to dirt, fence line and corridor cleanup included. Dirt work services, grubbing and rough grading, at $160 an hour with operator. Concrete, wells, septic and house demolition are not mine.
Lot Clearing and Acreage Prep in Kerrville, Ingram and Center Point
The county permitted 91 single-family homes in the 2025 Census Building Permits Survey, a fraction of the work, because rural tracts need no permit. Residential land clearing here is cedar on rock, and rock adds a day. A half-acre lot is one skid steer day, $2,800, site prep for the slab included. Small residential lots with 10 or more stumps go by the day. The nearest lot in my logs is 1.2 acres in Liberty Hill, one day, $2,800; a Kerrville lot prices the same. Ranchettes along SH 16 run 10 to 100 acres; the homeowner wants a pad and a view. Commercial development and commercial land clearing for master-planned communities take the same machines, more days.
Forestry Mulching and Clearing Brush to Bring the Springs Back
Forestry mulching takes ashe juniper, the cedar on every divide here, down to a mulch mat: no pile, no burn-ban exposure, trees and brush ground standing, the wood left over the undergrowth. Mulching services run $900 to $1,400 an acre under 30 percent canopy, $3,000 to $4,000 in old-growth. Selective clearing keeps the marked live oaks, and our crews cut no oak limb in the Texas A&M Forest Service oak wilt window, February through June. AgriLife research shows mature cedar canopy intercepts the first inch of rain, and taking a ranch-scale tract under 10 percent canopy raises spring flow. When I wrote EQIP plans, that was the line ranchers cared about. A spring that quits is not drought. Most of the time it is cedar drinking first.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Kerr County?
Land clearing in Kerr County costs $900 to $4,000 an acre for cedar by canopy percent and $2,000 to $4,500 an acre for full clearing to dirt. Rock or caliche adds a day on nearly every tract, and tracts west of Kerrville carry a transport line; both go in first.
- Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, transport included within 60 miles of Johnson City.
- 300-hp mulcher, 8 ft head, 6 to 8 acres a day in dense cedar: $4,200 a day plus transport.
- Cedar mulching: $900 to $1,400 light, $1,800 to $2,600 medium, $3,000 to $4,000 dense.
- Bush hogging: $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum.
On ranch acreage the day count matters more than the acre price: the 300-hp mulcher takes 6 to 8 acres a day in dense cedar. On agricultural land under an approved EQIP plan, NRCS cost-share pays 50 to 75 percent of the practice 314 rate; I can read your plan and say what it pays. Terrain, Soil and Vegetation Along the Guadalupe River Divides
Kerr County's ground is Edwards limestone on the divides and Glen Rose in the canyons, with caliche, thin soil and cedar at 50 to 70 percent canopy. Tracts near Guadalupe River have the deep soil, the big cypress and the FEMA mapped floodplain. The divides are rock, where a dozer skates and a mulcher keeps working. Site conditions change at every draw, so the walk sets the days. Drainage off limestone is fast, so the mulch mat left down is the erosion control until grass takes.
UGRA River Rules, Warbler Season and Burn Bans Before You Clear
Three rules apply here, and none is a state permit, because Texas has none. The Upper Guadalupe River Authority enforces riverbank and water quality rules along the Guadalupe, so the bank setback gets checked before we cut. The golden-cheeked warbler nests in mature cedar-oak canopy from March to July, so under TPWD and USFWS guidance we mulch mature canopy August through February. Burn bans come from the county judge or commissioners court and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern every pile; we leave none. There is no Edwards Aquifer recharge zone this far west. The quote names the rules on your tract.
Areas We Serve in the Hill Country Core
Our service area for land clearing services in Kerr and neighboring counties runs west on US 290. Serving Kerr County east of Kerrville is inside the 60-mile circle; Kerr County, TX and the surrounding areas toward Hunt carry a transport line. Kerrville has its own page. The other towns we serve in Kerr County are Center Point, Comfort and Hunt. This is the Hill Country core for cedar; few counties in Texas hold more old-growth canopy, and clearing land for a spring is Teo's most common call from here.
