Land Clearing Services Available in Gillespie County
Six professional land clearing services, from orchard ground to ranch pasture. Forestry mulching for cedar brakes. Lot clearing for a homesite, one day per half acre. Brush clearing and underbrushing so a live oak woodland shades grass, not cedar duff. Stump grinding at $4 per inch of diameter, $175 minimum per stump. Tree clearing, site clearing and site preparation to dirt for a vineyard block, fence line and corridor cleanup included. Dirt work services, grubbing and rough grading, at $160 an hour with operator. Concrete, wells, septic and house demolition are not mine.
Lot Clearing and Acreage Prep in Fredericksburg, Stonewall and Harper
The county permitted 51 single-family homes in the 2025 Census Building Permits Survey, a rounding error against the real work, because rural tracts need no permit. Residential land clearing here is cedar on limestone or granite sand, and rock adds a day on most tracts. A half-acre lot is one skid steer day, $2,800, site prep for the slab included. Small residential lots with 10 or more stumps go by the day. Vineyard tracts off US 290 run 10 to 100 acres; the homeowner wants a pad, a view lane and the rows cleared to dirt, the rest thinned. Commercial development and commercial land clearing for a winery or master-planned communities take the same machines, more days.
Forestry Mulching and Clearing Brush for Orchards, Vineyards and Pasture
Forestry mulching takes ashe juniper, the cedar on every ridge here, down to a mulch mat with no pile and no burn-ban exposure. It grinds trees and brush standing; the wood stays over the undergrowth. Mulching services run $900 to $1,400 an acre under 30 percent canopy, $3,000 to $4,000 in old-growth. Selective clearing keeps the marked live oaks, and our crews cut no oak limb in the Texas A&M Forest Service oak wilt window, February through June; oak wilt has already taken whole motts here. AgriLife research shows mature cedar canopy intercepts the first inch of rain, and on our jobs in Gillespie County the seeps return the first wet year after. Peach trees need sun and water. Cedar takes both and gives back nothing but pollen.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Gillespie County?
Land clearing in Gillespie County costs $900 to $4,000 an acre for cedar by canopy percent and $2,000 to $4,500 an acre for full clearing to dirt, which a vineyard block needs. Rock or caliche adds a day on most tracts, granite sand does not, and the quote says which first.
- Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, transport included within 60 miles of Johnson City.
- 300-hp mulcher, 8 ft head: $4,200 a day plus transport, for 60 percent canopy and up.
- Cedar mulching: $900 to $1,400 light, $1,800 to $2,600 medium, $3,000 to $4,000 dense.
- Bush hogging between vineyard rows: $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum.
On a tract I walked last fall off US 87 the canopy read 60 percent: 300-hp mulcher work, 6 to 8 acres a day. On agricultural land under an approved EQIP plan, NRCS cost-share pays 50 to 75 percent of the practice 314 rate; I can read your plan and say what it pays. Terrain, Soil and Vegetation From the Pedernales to Enchanted Rock
Gillespie County's ground is two things. South and east it is Edwards limestone with caliche, thin soil and cedar at 40 to 70 percent canopy. North toward Enchanted Rock it is Llano Uplift granite with sandy pockets, post oak and less cedar, where a mulcher runs faster. Tracts near Pedernales River and along its creeks carry deep alluvium, pecan, and FEMA mapped floodplain. Site conditions decide the machine; the walk decides the days. Drainage off limestone is fast, so the mulch mat left down is the erosion control until grass takes.
Warbler Season, Burn Bans and Floodplain Permits Before You Clear
Three rules apply here, and none is a state permit, because Texas has none. The golden-cheeked warbler nests in mature cedar-oak canopy from March to July, so under TPWD and USFWS guidance we mulch mature canopy August through February. Burn bans come from the county judge or commissioners court, and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern every pile; we leave none. A county floodplain development permit applies before dirt moves in FEMA floodplain along the Pedernales. There is no Edwards Aquifer recharge zone here, so grading is simpler than one county east. When I wrote EQIP plans a missed rule cost a season; the quote names yours.
Areas We Serve in Hill Country Wine Country
Our service area for land clearing services in Gillespie and neighboring counties starts 30 miles east at Johnson City. Serving Gillespie County carries no transport charge anywhere in it; Gillespie County, TX and the surrounding areas past 60 miles do. Fredericksburg has its own page. The other towns we serve in Gillespie County are Harper, Luckenbach and Doss. This is Hill Country wine and peach ground, higher-ticket cedar work than most counties in Texas see; clearing land for a vineyard or a view is Teo's most common call from here.
