Land Clearing Services Available in Comal County
Six professional land clearing services, one crew, one written quote. Forestry mulching for cedar brakes. Lot clearing for a homesite, one day per half acre. Brush clearing and underbrushing so a live oak woodland grows grass again. Stump grinding at $4 per inch of diameter, $175 minimum per stump. Tree clearing, site clearing and site preparation to dirt, fence line and corridor cleanup included. Dirt work services, grubbing and rough grading, at $160 an hour with operator. Concrete, wells, septic and house demolition are not mine.
Lot Clearing and Acreage Prep in New Braunfels, Bulverde and Spring Branch
The county permitted 1,726 single-family homes in the 2025 Census Building Permits Survey, down 24 percent, and the number understates the work because rural tracts need no permit. Residential land clearing here is cedar and live oak on rock almost everywhere, and rock adds a day. A half-acre lot is one skid steer day, $2,800, site prep for the slab included. Small residential lots with 10 or more stumps go by the day. Ranchettes off FM 306 run 5 to 25 acres; the homeowner usually wants a pad, a drive and a view lane, the rest thinned. Commercial development and commercial land clearing for master-planned communities take the same machines, more days.
Forestry Mulching and Clearing Brush on Limestone Hillsides
Forestry mulching is the only way I clear ashe juniper, the cedar on every hillside here: no pile, no burn-ban exposure. It grinds trees and brush standing, and the wood stays down as mulch over the undergrowth. Mulching services run $900 to $1,400 an acre under 30 percent canopy, $3,000 to $4,000 in old-growth. Selective clearing keeps the marked live oaks. Texas A&M Forest Service sets the oak wilt wound window at February through June, and our crews cut no oak limb then. AgriLife research shows mature cedar canopy intercepts the first inch of rain; on our jobs the seeps return the first wet year after. Rain in the Hill Country comes all at once or not at all, and cedar likes it either way.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Comal County?
Land clearing in Comal County costs $900 to $4,000 an acre for cedar by canopy percent and $2,000 to $4,500 an acre for full clearing to dirt. Rock or caliche adds a day on nearly every tract here, and it goes in the quote first.
- Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, transport included within 60 miles of Johnson City.
- 300-hp mulcher, 8 ft head, for dense old-growth: $4,200 a day plus transport.
- Cedar mulching: $900 to $1,400 light, $1,800 to $2,600 medium, $3,000 to $4,000 dense.
- Bush hogging: $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum.
The job in my logs that matches most tracts here is 3 acres in Dripping Springs: selective cedar for the oaks and the view, 2 days on the skid steer, $5,600. On agricultural land under an approved EQIP plan, NRCS cost-share pays 50 to 75 percent of the practice 314 rate. For a free quote, call (832) 987-3495 or send the form. Terrain, Soil and Vegetation From Canyon Lake to I-35
Comal County's ground is Edwards and Glen Rose limestone with caliche, thin soil and cedar at 40 to 70 percent canopy nearly everywhere west of I-35. Tracts near Canyon Lake and along the Guadalupe River are the steepest, with ledges that stop a dozer. East of I-35 around New Braunfels the land drops off the Balcones Escarpment into blackland clay that goes soft in winter. Site conditions decide the machine; river bottoms carry FEMA mapped floodplain. Drainage off limestone is fast, so the mulch mat left down is the erosion control.
Edwards Aquifer, GBRA Shoreline and Warbler Season Before You Clear
Most of the county west of I-35 sits on the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone or its contributing zone, the first line I check. On mapped recharge land, TCEQ requires a Water Pollution Abatement Plan before grading or clearing disturbs the soil. GBRA sets shoreline rules at Canyon Lake; vegetation inside the flowage easement is theirs, not yours. The golden-cheeked warbler nests in mature cedar-oak canopy from March to July, so under TPWD and USFWS guidance we mulch mature canopy August through February. Burn bans come from the county judge or commissioners court and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern every pile; we leave none. When I wrote EQIP plans a missed rule cost a season; the quote names the ones on your tract.
