Land Clearing Services Available in Kaufman County
Five services cover residential and commercial tracts along US 80 and US 175.
- Residential land clearing to a pad under the oaks: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre to dirt.
- Commercial land clearing and site clearing along I-20 and US 80.
- Forestry mulching and tree clearing: trees and brush ground where they grew, no pile to burn.
- Lot clearing on small residential lots: underbrushing, dead post oak tree removal, stump grinding at $4 an inch, $175 minimum.
- Site prep and dirt work services: pond excavation, drainage, pad grading, cleanup.
Our land clearing service removes the trees you do not want and leaves the ones you do. Slabs, wells, septic and demolition are other trades.
Lot and Acreage Clearing for New Homes in Forney and Terrell
The county permitted 1,057 single-family homes in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, down 32 percent, the sharpest drop among the counties in Texas, and that understates the rural work. Master-planned communities at Forney are developer work. Our residential jobs are the homeowner on two to ten acres south of Terrell who wants a pad under the oaks and a pond, and property owners doing property development along FM 148.
A half-acre wooded lot is one skid steer day, $2,800. Commercial development pads along US 80 are land clearing projects priced by the acre.
Forestry Mulching and Brush Clearing Across Kaufman County
Our mulching services take the understory and leave the post oak. Yaupon, greenbrier and eastern red cedar, not ashe juniper, come out; oaks over 8 inches stay. The mulch goes down two to three inches and holds the sandy loam against erosion until grass returns. Clearing brush this way leaves no pile.
Hackberry volunteers for every fence line in Texas and never finishes the job. It resprouts from the root crown after a cut, so removing vegetation along an old row means grinding below grade. Post oak is the opposite: it hates root disturbance, so on selective clearing jobs we keep the head above grade inside the drip line. We remove unwanted vegetation and undergrowth, and the wood stays as mulch. The pine and hardwood understory our Lindale crew grinds starts east of here.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Kaufman County?
Land clearing in Kaufman County runs $900 to $4,500 an acre, and two rules move the number first. The county sits about 75 miles from Weatherford, so transport is quoted separately and we book two days minimum. Wet blackland on the west side adds a day, November to April.
- Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, two days minimum.
- 300-hp mulcher with the 8-foot head, equipment to handle mature post oak: $4,200 a day plus transport.

Terrain, Soil and Vegetation Near Lake Ray Hubbard and the East Fork
Two soils meet near US 175. West, around Forney and the Lake Ray Hubbard shoreline, it is blackland clay with hackberry and bois d'arc, and a pasture there will overgrow in eight years. East and south, toward Kaufman, the Post Oak Savannah takes over: post oak and blackjack oak on sandy loam over clay, yaupon underneath. The East Fork of the Trinity and Cedar Creek carry bottomland woodland, and that corridor is mapped floodplain. Site conditions on the loam are good most of the year. A pond needs the clay layer underneath; I probe for it.
On our jobs along US 175 I log two to three acres a day in post oak understory.
Burn Bans and Other Rules Before Clearing Land in Kaufman County
Three rules govern clearing land throughout Kaufman County, and none is a state permit. FEMA maps the East Fork, Cedar Creek and the lake shoreline, and the county issues a floodplain development permit before excavation or grading there. The county judge or commissioners court declares a burn ban, and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern every pile the rest of the year. Forney has a tree ordinance inside city limits.
Texas A&M Forest Service sets February to June as the oak wilt window. Since 2015 no live oak on our jobs has taken a wound in that window. Teo runs the floodplain check when you book, before I quote.
