Land Clearing in Kerrville, TX: Lot, Brush and Forestry Mulching

Kerrville is cedar on limestone above the Guadalupe River, with live oaks in the bottoms and ashe juniper at 50 to 80 percent canopy on every slope between I-10 and SH 16. I have never met a cedar that respected a property line. Kerr County pulled 91 house permits last year and most of the work was never permitted, because the county needs none outside city limits. Our crews come from the Johnson City yard by US 290 and SH 16, and I have read canopy on this rock since 2015. Fill out the form or call (832) 987-3495. Teo will call you back before the end of the business day.

Land Clearing Services in Kerrville, TX

Pruitt Range & Brush provides land clearing services in Kerrville, TX and the surrounding area from Johnson City, one land clearing company with every project written as canopy percent, acres and days. Residential land clearing here is a river lot or a ranchette opened to the oaks for a house, a drive and a view down the valley. Commercial land clearing services cover commercial sites along I-10 and SH 27 and the commercial development pads near the hospital district; commercial clearing of a rock pad is a day for the 300-hp machine.

  • Selective clearing and brush removal: cedar mulched in place, oak limbs left alone.
  • Tree removal of dead cedar and hackberry, then stump grinding at $4 an inch; we grind them flush.
  • Site clearing and site preparation to a rough grade over rock, drainage cut to the natural draw.
  • Property clearing of fence lines and professional clearing of riverbank buffers under Upper Guadalupe River Authority water quality rules.

My site work stops at the rough grade. No concrete, wells, septic or house demolition; the excavation and grading crews I hand to know this rock. A professional land clearing service names its edge before its price. Tell Teo the acreage and canopy and I will give you the day count.

Lot Clearing for New Homes in Kerrville and Ingram

Kerrville issued 89 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, nearly all of the 91 for Kerr County, and the county requires none outside city limits, so permits understate the ranchettes being opened along SH 27 and SH 16. The land clearing projects I take are one-acre river lots and 10-acre to 100-acre cedar tracts. A half-acre lot is one day with the skid steer, $2,800. For the big end, the 42-acre tract in Blanco County is my reference: 55 percent canopy going in, six days with the 300-hp mulcher, $27,500 plus transport, and the spring below the stock tank ran the next wet season. Rock adds a day on anything bigger than a lot, written before the price. Depending on site conditions we mulch in place and leave a 3-inch bed on the slope, or grub the pad and haul; the site visit decides. Residential and commercial properties begin with the same two checks: Texas 811 and the plat for any pipeline or utility easement. Property owners get my acres-per-day log with the invoice. After a cleanup pass the crew will leave the site with the full site rough graded and site prep done, and we make your property ready for forms.

Brush Clearing and Forestry Mulching Near Kerrville

A mulcher is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees down to a chip bed, turning standing vegetation into mulch without a pile. Above the Guadalupe it is the only way to clear land that keeps soil out of the river and smoke out of the valley. Kerr County burn bans are declared by the county judge or commissioners court, and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern piles the rest of the year; mulch needs neither. Cedar, which is ashe juniper, intercepts the first inch of rain in its canopy, and AgriLife research on mature stands ties that to dry seeps and bare ground beneath. Under 10 percent canopy the seeps run again; when I wrote EQIP plans that reading was the whole plan for a ranch. Golden-cheeked warblers nest in mature cedar-oak canopy from March to July under TPWD and USFWS rules, and Kerr County is core habitat, so on our jobs here old-growth cedar runs August through February without exception. Oak wilt runs the other calendar. Texas A&M Forest Service says no live oak wounds February to June, so the crew mulches cedar around the oaks and leaves the oak limbs alone in that window. We remove brush in areas with dense regrowth first and thin to the motts. Large acreage clearing of overgrown land runs $1,800 to $2,600 an acre at medium canopy and $3,000 to $4,000 in old growth. A reclaimed cedar pasture carries more animal units after a season of deferment, and I size that number from the grass, not the brochure, and cedar will overgrow it from seed inside ten years without a bush hog pass.

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Kerrville?

Land clearing costs in Kerrville run from $2,800 for a half-acre lot to $3,000 to $4,000 an acre in old cedar; in between, the number depends on the size of the tract and its canopy percent. Rock adds a day on these tracts, stated before the price. The land clearing Kerrville landowners pay for, in writing before the trailer leaves the yard:

  • Skid steer mulcher, $2,800 for the day. Handles stems to about 8 inches. No transport charge within 60 miles of a yard.
  • 300-hp mulcher, 8 ft head, $4,200 for the day plus transport. This is the machine for old cedar and big mesquite.
  • Grub, haul or pile, and rough grade to bare dirt: $2,000 to $4,500 per acre depending on density.
  • Stump work is $4 per inch of diameter and $175 minimum per stump; a lot with 10 or more stumps is a day rate.
  • Bush hogging runs $60 to $90 per acre with a $400 minimum. Grubbing by dozer is $160 per hour with operator.
  • A haul-off load is $650 to $1,200. The minimum trip is $1,100.
  • Cedar mulching per acre runs $900 to $1,400 under 30 percent canopy, $1,800 to $2,600 at medium cover, and $3,000 to $4,000 in dense old growth or mesquite.
  • Kerrville sits about 55 miles from the Johnson City yard, inside the 60-mile circle, so skid steer transport is included.
