Land Clearing Services in Converse, TX
Pruitt Range & Brush provides land clearing for residential and commercial properties in Converse, lots to small acreage, with a skid steer mulcher and a dozer. I am a land clearing company serving ranch country first, and the same rule holds on a town lot: every project is scoped in writing by stem count before I name a price.
- Site prep for a house pad, shop or carport slab
- Brush clearing with mesquite and huisache mulched in place
- Selective clearing that keeps the pecans and hackberry shade
- Full site clearing to dirt: grub the root crowns, rough grading, cleanup
- Stump grinding, $4 per inch of diameter, $175 minimum each stump
- Tree removal, hauled off at $650 to $1,200 per load
- Commercial land clearing services for commercial sites along FM 78 and pipeline rows
Residential land clearing is most of the calendar in Converse, TX and the surrounding area, and commercial clearing for a commercial development runs the same day rates. A professional land clearing service in Converse tells you whether the mesquite gets mulched or grubbed.
Lot Clearing for New Homes in Converse and Universal City
The Census Building Permits Survey imputed 293 single-family permits for Converse in 2025 with no months reported, so treat it as an estimate inside the Bexar County total of 4,589, down 21 percent. A half-acre lot is one skid steer day, $2,800, and we leave the site with mulch on the clay and nothing to haul. Site preparation ends at rough grading. Excavation for the slab, concrete, wells and septic are not mine. I know people who do.
The land clearing process on blackland starts with the calendar. Wet clay adds a day from November to April, and I put that on the quote before the price. Lots inside the San Antonio ETJ fall under the city tree preservation ordinance for significant and heritage trees, so pecans and big hackberry get tagged before site work. Drainage is the whole game on flat clay: the pad is graded to a swale, and the mulch layer keeps the surface from sealing. Send me the plat and I will walk the property with you.
Brush Clearing and Forestry Mulching Near Converse
Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees, brush and vegetation into mulch on the spot, and on blackland it is the only machine for a wet month: a mulcher floats where a dozer sinks. The Bexar County judge declares burn bans in dry stretches and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern every pile; a mulched lot has none. The skid steer takes stems to about 8 inches, which covers nearly every mesquite in Converse.
Mesquite does not die when you cut it. It takes it personally. Cut at the ground, it resprouts from the root crown within a season, so a mulch-only job on mesquite is a two-year job. Where you want it gone, we grub the crown with the dozer at $160 an hour and mulch the rest. Huisache behaves the same way; hackberry does not. When I wrote EQIP plans, mesquite pasture reclaim was the practice I signed most, and stocking rates roughly doubled after the crowns came out. Property clearing on a town lot is the same work smaller: remove brush, grind the stubs, keep the shade trees, and make your property buildable landscape instead of overgrown land. Areas with dense huisache go slower, about half an acre a day.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Converse?
Land clearing costs in Converse start at $2,800 for a half-acre lot and run $900 to $4,000 an acre on larger tracts, set by stem density on the site visit. Wet blackland adds a day in the cool months, and transport from Johnson City is a line item here; both appear before the acre price. The final number depends on the size of the tract, access and site conditions.
- Light mesquite and huisache under 30 percent canopy: $900 to $1,400 an acre
- Medium density: $1,800 to $2,600 an acre
- Dense old mesquite: $3,000 to $4,000 an acre
- Full clearing to dirt with crowns grubbed and rough grade: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre
- Skid steer mulcher $2,800 a day; transport included only within 60 miles of a yard
- Dozer and operator at $160 an hour, haul-off $650 to $1,200 per load, $1,100 minimum trip
Large acreage clearing is quoted per acre, depending on site access. For scale, a 1.2-acre lot in Liberty Hill took one skid steer day at $2,800, and a Converse lot of the same size prices the same before transport. An approved EQIP plan under practice 314 pays 50 to 75 percent of the NRCS rate. Call (832) 987-3495 or fill out the form. Teo calls back before the end of the business day.
Serving Converse, Universal City, Schertz, Live Oak and Kirby
Our crews run land clearing services across the greater San Antonio area, and Converse is the northeast corner of the San Antonio metro where blackland lots meet the Loop 1604 growth. Universal City and Live Oak carry the same clay and mesquite on older lots. Schertz, over the Guadalupe County line on FM 78, has its own page and tree ordinance. Kirby, inside the loop, is half-day infill lots. Services throughout the Hill Country and the blackland run on one price sheet. On our jobs in Bexar County the untouched mesquite lots read 30 to 50 percent canopy. Property owners can read the Bexar County page or the Hill Country region page.
