Land Clearing in Buda, TX: Lot, Brush and Forestry Mulching

Buda sits on the Hill Country edge: cedar and live oak on limestone west of I-35, mesquite and hackberry on blackland east. The lots that come to me are a half acre to five acres off FM 1626 and FM 967, most of them cedar at 50 to 70 percent canopy. Our crews come from the Johnson City yard, 48 miles up US 290, and I have cleared both soils since 2015. Fill out the form or call (832) 987-3495. Teo will call you back before the end of the business day.

Land Clearing Services in Buda, TX

Pruitt Range & Brush provides land clearing services in Buda, TX and the surrounding area, one land clearing company with three yards and a written scope on every project. Residential land clearing here is a cedar lot opened to the oaks west of town or a mesquite lot cleared to dirt east of it. Commercial land clearing services cover commercial sites along I-35 and the commercial development pads near FM 1626; commercial clearing of a 5-acre pad is a day with the 300-hp machine.

  • Selective clearing and brush removal: cedar mulched in place, oaks kept, mesquite grubbed at the root crown.
  • Tree removal and stump grinding; we grind the stumps flush at $4 an inch so the slab never sits on a root.
  • Site clearing and site preparation to a rough grade, drainage cut so the clay sheds and the rock drains to the draw.
  • Property clearing of fence lines and professional clearing along Onion Creek under the Hays County floodplain permit.

Site work stops at the rough grade. No concrete, wells, septic or house demolition from me; the excavation and grading crews I hand to know both soils. A professional land clearing service tells you where its job stops. Tell Teo the acreage and which side of the highway and I will give you the day count.

Lot Clearing for New Homes in Buda and Kyle

Buda recorded 66 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, a small share of the 4,153 across Hays County, because most Buda-address lots sit in the unincorporated county and never show in the city count. The land clearing projects I take are the acreage lots west of I-35 and the farm corners east of it. A half-acre lot is one day with the skid steer, $2,800. A 3-acre hillside in Dripping Springs at 70 percent canopy took two days, $5,600, oaks and view kept, and that is the comparable for a cedar lot west of Buda. Rock adds a day on anything larger west of the highway; wet blackland adds a day east of it in winter. Both are written before the price. Depending on site conditions we mulch in place or grub the pad and haul, and the site visit decides. Residential and commercial properties share one checklist: Texas 811, the plat for any pipeline or utility easement, and the recharge zone map west of town. Property owners see my acres-per-day log stapled to the invoice. After a cleanup pass the crew will leave the site with the full site rough graded and site prep done, and we make your property ready for forms.

Brush Clearing and Forestry Mulching Near Buda

Mulching is the land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees and cedar in place, and it turns the whole stand of vegetation into mulch by the end of the day. On either side of I-35 it is the cheapest way to clear land, because nothing is hauled and nothing burns. Hays County burn bans come from the county judge or commissioners court, and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern piles the rest of the year; mulch has no pile. Cedar, which is ashe juniper, intercepts the first inch of rain in its canopy, and AgriLife research on mature stands ties that to dry seeps and bare ground; under 10 percent canopy the seeps run again. Cedar seedlings come up by the thousand. The one you miss is the one you see from the porch, so on our jobs here the plan carries a bush hog pass in year three. West of town the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone applies, and TCEQ requires a Water Pollution Abatement Plan before grading or clearing on mapped land; I tell you on the site visit whether your lot is on it. For oak wilt, Texas A&M Forest Service says no live oak wounds February to June; the crew mulches cedar around the oaks and never cuts an oak limb in those months. East of the highway mesquite will overgrow a pasture from the root crown unless it is grubbed. We remove brush in areas with dense regrowth first and thin the rest. Large acreage clearing of overgrown land runs $900 to $1,400 an acre at light canopy and $3,000 to $4,000 in old growth.

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Buda?

Land clearing costs in Buda start at $2,800 for a half-acre lot; above that the number depends on the size of the tract, its canopy percent and which side of I-35 it sits on. Rock adds a day west. Wet blackland adds a day east in winter. Both are stated before the price. The land clearing Buda landowners pay for, in writing before the trailer leaves the yard:

  • One day of skid steer mulching is $2,800, transport included inside 60 miles of a yard, stems to about 8 inches.
  • One day of the 300-hp mulcher is $4,200 plus transport. The 8 ft head takes anything standing on the tract.
  • Cedar per acre: $900 to $1,400 when canopy is under 30 percent, $1,800 to $2,600 for medium cover, $3,000 to $4,000 for dense old-growth cedar or mesquite.
  • Bare dirt with grubbing, haul or pile, and a rough grade: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre.
  • Stump grinding at $4 per inch of diameter, $175 minimum per stump. Past 10 stumps I price the lot by the day.
  • Bush hogging at $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum, and the dozer at $160 an hour with operator.
  • Haul-off at $650 to $1,200 a load, $1,100 minimum trip.
  • Buda sits inside 60 miles of the Johnson City yard, so skid steer transport is included.

The on-site estimate is free. I walk the property with you, count stems west of the highway or probe clay east of it, and the figure I write is what Teo invoices. Insured crews, written scope. Call (832) 987-3495 or send the form and Teo will call you back before the end of the business day.
