Land Clearing in Bertram, TX: Lot, Brush and Forestry Mulching

Bertram is ranchette country on SH 29: five-acre and ten-acre pieces cut from cedar pasture, ashe juniper at 40 to 70 percent canopy over limestone with live oak motts in the draws. A goat will eat anything on a ranch except the cedar it was bought to eat, so the mulcher comes instead. Our crews run up from the Johnson City yard, 40 miles, and the 1.2-acre lot we cleared for $2,800 is ten miles east of here. Fill out the form or call (832) 987-3495. Teo will call you back before the end of the business day.

Land Clearing Services in Bertram, TX

Pruitt Range & Brush provides land clearing services in Bertram, TX and the surrounding area from Johnson City, one land clearing company with the scope for every project written in canopy percent and days. Residential land clearing here is a ranchette opened to the oaks for a house, a barn pad and a well pad, with the rest of the cedar thinned for grass. Commercial land clearing services cover commercial sites along SH 29 and the small commercial development lots at the edge of town; commercial clearing of a rock pad is a day for the 300-hp machine.

  • Selective clearing and brush removal: cedar mulched in place, oaks kept, mesquite grubbed at the root crown.
  • Tree removal of dead cedar and hackberry, stump grinding behind it; we grind each stump flush at $4 an inch.
  • Site clearing and site preparation to a rough grade over caliche, drainage cut to the natural draw.
  • Property clearing of fence lines and professional clearing of creek banks under the county floodplain permit.

Site work stops at the rough grade. No concrete, wells, septic or house demolition from me; I know the excavation and grading crews who pick it up. A professional land clearing service tells you where its job stops. Tell Teo the acreage and canopy and I will tell you the day count.

Lot Clearing for New Homes in Bertram and Burnet

Bertram recorded 125 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, inside 734 for Burnet County, and since the county requires no permit outside city limits the number understates the ranchettes being opened. The land clearing projects here are two to ten acres. That lot is the model for the small end: 1.2 acres of cedar, one day with the skid steer, $2,800, oaks kept. A half-acre lot takes the same day at the same price. Ten acres at 60 percent canopy is four days with the 300-hp machine plus a rock day, and the rock day is in the quote before the price. Depending on site conditions we mulch in place and leave a 3-inch bed on the thin soil, or grub the pad and haul; the site visit decides. Residential and commercial properties open the same way: Texas 811 and the plat for any pipeline or utility easement. Property owners get my acres-per-day log with the invoice. After a cleanup pass the crew will leave the site with the full site rough graded and site prep done, and we make your property ready for the forms crew.

Brush Clearing and Forestry Mulching Near Bertram

The land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees and brush into a bed of chips is what I run most days: a mulching head turns standing vegetation into mulch in one pass. On Bertram limestone it is the way to clear land that keeps the thin soil and never builds a pile. Burn bans here come from the county judge or commissioners court, and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern piles the rest of the year; mulch needs neither. Cedar, which is ashe juniper, intercepts the first inch of rain in its canopy, and AgriLife research on mature stands shows why the grass under it dies and the seeps below it stop. Under 10 percent canopy they run again. When I wrote EQIP plans for ranchers around here, that reading was the whole plan. Golden-cheeked warblers nest in mature cedar-oak canopy from March to July under TPWD and USFWS rules, so on our jobs here old-growth cedar runs August through February. Texas A&M Forest Service says no live oak wounds February to June for oak wilt, so the crew mulches cedar around the oaks without touching an oak limb then. We remove brush in areas with dense regrowth first and thin to the motts. Large acreage clearing of overgrown land runs $900 to $1,400 an acre under 30 percent canopy and $3,000 to $4,000 in old growth. A reclaimed cedar pasture carries more animal units after a season of deferment, and I size that number from the grass, not the brochure; cedar will overgrow it again from seed inside ten years without a bush hog pass.

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Bertram?

Land clearing costs in Bertram start at $2,800 for a lot up to about an acre of cedar; past that the number depends on the size of the tract, the canopy percent and the rock. Rock or caliche adds a day on Hill Country tracts, stated before the price. The land clearing Bertram ranchette owners pay for, in writing before the trailer leaves the yard:

  • $2,800 a day for the skid steer mulcher. Stems to 8 inches. Transport is in the price within 60 miles of a yard.
  • $4,200 a day plus transport for the 300-hp machine and its 8 ft head. Nothing on a Hill Country tract stops it.
  • Clearing to bare dirt, grubbed, hauled or piled, rough graded: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre.
  • Stumps: $4 an inch of diameter with a $175 minimum per stump. Ten or more and we price the day.
  • Bush hog work: $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum. Dozer and operator: $160 an hour.
  • Hauling: $650 to $1,200 per load. Minimum trip is $1,100.
  • Cedar by the acre: light canopy under 30 percent, $900 to $1,400. Medium, $1,800 to $2,600. Dense old growth or mesquite, $3,000 to $4,000.
  • Bertram sits 40 miles from the Johnson City yard, inside the 60-mile circle, so skid steer transport is included.

The on-site estimate costs nothing. I walk the property with you, read the canopy, tap the caliche, and the figure I write is what Teo invoices. Insured crews, written scope. Call (832) 987-3495 or send the form and Teo will call you back before the end of the business day.
