Land Clearing Services in Azle
Pruitt Range & Brush provides land clearing, lot clearing, brush removal, stump grinding and rough grading for residential and commercial properties in Azle, TX and the surrounding area. Six scopes cover every project around the lake:
- Selective clearing on wooded lake lots: cedar and post oak saplings out, mature oaks kept and staked.
- Residential land clearing for a homesite: understory to grade, rough grade, cleanup.
- Commercial land clearing services and commercial clearing for commercial sites and commercial development along SH 199.
- Pasture reclaim, property clearing, brush clearing and professional clearing on 5 to 40 acres west of town.
- Tree removal of stems to 8 inches with the mulcher; larger trunks cut and hauled.
- Full site clearing, site preparation, land improvement and landscape clearing to the rough grade.
Site work stops at the rough grade. Excavation for foundations, wells, septic and house demolition are other trades, and I know people who do them. On a wooded lot our professional land clearing service earns its keep by what it leaves. Post oak dies if you compact under the crown or pile fill on its roots, so the mulcher works from outside the drip line. Cedar, which is ashe juniper, does not resprout from the stump, so one pass is the last pass. Send me the survey and I will mark the oaks that stay.
Lot Clearing for New Homes in Azle and Springtown
Azle, TX issued 241 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, most on wooded lots near Eagle Mountain Lake, and Springtown across the Parker County line adds its own on larger acreage. A half-acre lot is one day with the skid steer mulcher, $2,800, transport included from Weatherford. A wooded acre with the oaks kept and a dozen stumps is two days. Property owners get both figures on paper at the site visit.
Sand is the good news here. Depending on site conditions we work most weeks of the year here, where a blackland lot across the metro sits wet from November to April. Drainage on a lake lot runs to the water, so the two-inch chip layer stays off the shoreline. Dirt moved in the FEMA mapped floodplain around the lake and along Ash Creek needs a county floodplain development permit first, and I pull that map before the price. Before we grind a stump we call 811, since a gas pipeline and buried electric cross the SH 199 corridor under the brush. Post oak sand looks dry on top and will swallow a trailer tire by noon, so the trailer stays on the road. The site prep I do stops at the rough grade. The on-site estimate, plat in hand, tells you what it takes to make your property slab-ready.
Brush Clearing and Forestry Mulching Near Azle
Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees, brush and vegetation into mulch in one pass, mulched in place with no pile to burn or haul. Near Azle it is the cheapest way to clear land under oaks, because the chips protect the roots a dozer would tear. It also sidesteps the burn ban the county judge or commissioners court declares most dry summers and the TCEQ outdoor burning rules on piles.
Across the county line we cleared 8 acres of mesquite and post oak pasture in Parker County: two days, $8,400, with a bush hog follow-up every June. That tract is the pattern for the Azle area pasture. Mesquite comes back from the root crown after a plain mow, so we cut the crown at grade and treat the stem that day; the June bush hog catches seedlings. In light mesquite the skid steer makes 3 to 5 acres a day; overgrown land that is areas with dense cedar and 8-inch post oak saplings runs 1 to 2. Large acreage clearing over 15 acres gets the 300-hp mulcher and the 8 ft head. We remove brush to grade and leave the site under two inches of chips. Left alone, a sand lot will overgrow with cedar seedlings in five summers.
How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Azle?
Land clearing costs near Azle run $2,800 for a half-acre lot and $900 to $4,000 an acre to mulch, set by canopy percent. Add-ons come first: ten or more stumps move the grinding to a day rate, and keeping mature oaks adds about a day over clearing the same acreage to dirt.
- Skid steer mulcher: $2,800 a day, transport included within 60 miles of Weatherford.
- Big machine, the 300-hp mulcher with an 8 ft head, runs $4,200 a day plus transport.
- Mulching: $900 to $1,400 an acre under 30 percent canopy, $1,800 to $2,600 medium, $3,000 to $4,000 dense old cedar or mesquite.
- Scraped to dirt and rough graded, debris hauled: $2,000 to $4,500 an acre depending on density.
- Stump grinding: measure the trunk, $4 an inch, $175 minimum per stump.
- Dozer grubbing at $160 an hour with operator. Bush hogging at $60 to $90 an acre, $400 minimum.
- Minimum trip $1,100. Haul-off, when the builder wants bare dirt, $650 to $1,200 a load.
The total depends on the size of the lot, the canopy and the ground. I read canopy by pacing it off, the way I did for twelve years of EQIP brush plans, and I walk the property with you so the number is one we both saw. A pasture tract under an NRCS brush management plan, practice 314, gets 50 to 75 percent of the payment-schedule rate back as EQIP cost-share. Send the form or call (832) 987-3495, and the on-site estimate costs nothing.
